# Assembly Bill of Materials

Build assembly picking lists for steel members, plates, and hardware. Multiply component quantities by assembly counts and export consolidated material totals.

## 1. Add assembly marks

## 2. Add components to an assembly

Enter the weight and cost of one complete component. Include member length or plate dimensions, grade, and hardware specification in the description so unlike items remain distinguishable.

## Save and share your work

Import this tool's JSON backup (up to 2 MB)Your inputs and files stay in this browser. Nothing in these tools uploads material specifications, supplier details, or file contents. Saving on this device is explicit; export a JSON backup for work you need to retain. Shared devices and browser-data cleanup can affect saved work. Only rows added to the list are included in a backup.

## From assembly marks to a picking list

Start with the assembly mark on the drawing, then enter how many identical assemblies are required. Add the members, plates, and hardware needed for one assembly. For example, three assemblies containing four identical plates each produce a requirement for 12 plates. A second assembly using the same component adds to its consolidated total when description, type, weight, and price all match exactly.

The assembly list preserves the relationship between a component and its parent mark. The consolidated list supports material checking and purchasing. Separate rows are intentional when unit weights or costs differ; resolve those differences against the source documents before merging your records.

Does this calculate a member or plate weight from its dimensions?

No. Enter a verified weight for one complete component. The [takeoff tool](https://www.quantumsteeldesign.com/material-takeoff/) can help with nominal member weights. Here, zero means no weight or cost has been supplied and makes the resulting total incomplete.

What belongs in a component specification?

Include enough information to tell physically different items apart: section and cut length for members, thickness and dimensions for plates, and type, diameter, length, and grade for hardware. This tool does not infer compatibility from a short name.

Can this authorize fabrication?

No. Counts and rollups support your review of an approved drawing package. They do not verify connections, grades, fit, welds, load capacity, or engineering requirements.
