# Steel project review checklists

Keep common intake, coordination, and handoff questions visible while you review a package.

Checking an item records your progress only. It does not establish design approval, completeness, code conformance, or authorization to fabricate or erect. Adapt the list to the actual project responsibilities.

Select the items you have reviewed. Progress is saved only in this browser.

## Project intake and takeoff

Identify the drawing and specification set, issue date, revision, and scope being reviewed.
Record units, member designations, material grades, and the meaning of quantity fields.
Separate structural members, connection material, miscellaneous steel, and items outside scope.
Record assumptions and unresolved discrepancies instead of silently estimating missing requirements.
Cross-check a sample of quantities against plans, schedules, details, and elevations.
Identify who will resolve questions and confirm the next controlled information release.

## Detailing and coordination review

Confirm grids, elevations, member orientation, and controlling reference dimensions.
Resolve connection information through the project's assigned design and review responsibilities.
Check clearances and interfaces with concrete, embeds, architecture, and adjacent systems.
Match piece marks between the model, drawings, material lists, and placement references.
Identify open RFIs, outstanding approvals, and any areas that remain on hold.
Compare changed items against the preceding controlled issue and downstream deliverables.

## Release and handoff

Confirm the authorized release scope and the person responsible for accepting the package.
Check drawing, model, material-list, and machine-file revisions against the same release record.
Review export units, coordinate conventions, file names, and representative machine-file geometry.
List exclusions, held items, and unresolved information clearly in the transmittal.
Preserve the issued package and record recipients, issue date, and superseded information.
Confirm receipt and provide a clear route for production or field questions.

## Make each checked item traceable

For a fictional intake review, identify “Training set, S101 revision B” before checking the source-document item. If S201 is missing, leave the relevant item open and record the missing sheet in project notes. A checked box should describe something you actually reviewed, not something you expect another person to resolve later.

Before resetting this standalone checklist for another package, print or export the current progress. The standalone tool keeps one set of checkmarks in this browser. Use separate project workspaces when two jobs or issue sets need independent records.

A new drawing issue can invalidate an earlier check. Compare the changed scope and repeat the affected reviews instead of carrying every completed item forward automatically. Record the source, result, and exception so another person can understand the check.

## Keep the review connected

Use [project workspaces](https://www.quantumsteeldesign.com/project-workspaces/) to keep separate checklists, notes, and follow-up items for each project. You can copy this checklist's progress into a project and download a local backup.

Use the [release audit guide](https://www.quantumsteeldesign.com/blog/steel-detailing-release-audit/), [RFI and change-control learning path](https://www.quantumsteeldesign.com/learning-hub/steel-rfis-and-change-control/), and [steel shape reference](https://www.quantumsteeldesign.com/steel-tools/) alongside your controlled project information.

No project files or checklist selections are uploaded by this tool. Clearing this site's local storage removes saved progress.
