# Four Checks Before Exporting Structural Steel CNC Data

Learn four checks before exporting structural steel CNC data: source and revision, geometry, machine and process assumptions, and documented human release approval.

What you will learn

- SOURCE: Current model and release scope.

- IDENTITY: Mark, profile, material, and quantity.

- OPS: Holes, cuts, copes, and orientation.

- RESULT: Manifest, exceptions, and spot checks.

Practical context

## How controlled inputs become fabrication-ready CNC data

CNC or NC files translate model information into machine-readable operations, so source identity, units, member orientation, geometry, supported operations, file naming, and exceptions must be verified.

Successful export only proves that software wrote a file. Machine compatibility, geometry, operations, material, revision, and production authorization still require verification.

## What does a successful export actually prove?

A fictional export finishes without an error, but it was generated before the latest member revision. The file is readable while its content is out of date.

Separate file generation from release verification. Compare the approved source issue, member identity, units, and supported geometry with the intended output. Record rejected or skipped features. A successful software operation cannot establish that the receiver has the right revision or that the output is authorized for production.

### Try it with a sample

Write a short export manifest naming the source issue, output files, exceptions, and reviewer. Keep it with the handoff record.

Examples are fictional learning exercises. This companion text adds context to the video; the transcript below records the narration.

- Before steel CNC data reaches a machine, run four checks that connect it to the controlled model.

- First verify the exact model issue, release scope, export settings, software version, and units.

- Second compare member mark, profile, grade, length, quantity, orientation, and revision identity.

- Third inspect holes, cuts, copes, notches, markings, and every unsupported or skipped operation.

- Fourth compare file counts and representative geometry, then create a manifest with all exceptions.

- AI can organize comparisons and spot anomalies, but a file-created message does not verify a part.

- Machine compatibility, fabrication procedures, and qualified production authorization still control use.

- Build traceable steel automation and exports with Quantum Steel Design.
