# Right Model, Wrong Revision: A Hidden Steel Detailing Failure

Learn why correct steel geometry can still be wrong when it comes from a superseded drawing, RFI, addendum, or reference model—and how to trace every affected output.

What you will learn

- Correct geometry built from superseded information is still wrong for production.

- Confirm document identity, issue date, revision, RFIs, addenda, and reference models.

- Trace changes through members, connections, drawings, lists, CNC files, and field releases.

- Record the affected scope, exceptions, reviewer, and explicit release decision.

Practical context

## Steel detailing revision control across drawings, models, CNC data, and releases

A model built correctly from superseded information is not the current model for production.

A revision cloud is not a complete change check. Confirm the authorized source, trace every dependent output, compare regenerated deliverables, and remove superseded files from production locations.

Companion reading and practice

## Can the model be traced to its source issue?

A training model matches the drawings used to create it, but a later issued sheet changes one member. The geometry can be internally consistent and still represent the wrong baseline.

Record source revisions before checking the model. When a new issue arrives, identify affected members, dependent outputs, and earlier approvals that need review. A file name containing “final” does not establish currency.

### Try it with a sample

Add two issues of a sample sheet to the drawing register and identify which is current for the exercise.

Examples are fictional learning exercises. This companion text adds context to the video; the transcript below records the narration.

## Right model, wrong revision video transcript

The visible transcript makes the video content available to people and search systems without requiring playback.

- A steel model can look coordinated, complete, and correct—and still be the wrong model for production.

- The hidden failure is revision identity: correct geometry built from a superseded drawing, RFI, addendum, or reference model.

- Before changing geometry, confirm the authorized source, document number, issue date, and revision.

- Then trace every affected member, connection, drawing, list, CNC file, released package, and production status.

- Revision clouds help, but they do not prove the rest of the sheet or its dependent outputs stayed unchanged.

- Regenerate what depends on the revision, compare the results, and remove superseded files from production locations.

- Record the source, affected scope, exceptions, reviewer, and explicit release decision.

- The right model on the wrong revision is still wrong. Learn revision control at Quantum Steel Design.
