Steel-industry software development

Structural steel software for detailing and fabrication workflows.

Quantum Steel Design is more than a structural steel detailing business. It is also a software development shop focused on practical tools for steel detailing, review, coordination, and production support.

Free public tooling includes Quantum Steel PDF Rescue for local PDF-to-DXF recovery and an AISC v16.0 shape system with browser downloads, calculators, and a portable Windows app. jumpSteel Pro is Quantum Steel Design's proprietary internal assisted workflow, with qualified review and project-specific release authority kept with the assigned people.

Proprietary structural steel detailing automation

jumpSteel Pro is an internal assisted workflow for repeatable detailing, checking, and document preparation. It is separate from the public browser tools below. A successful automated step still needs the input, exception, and review context required for the particular project.

For an automation discussion, identify one task, its current source and output, the software versions involved, and the reviewer who can determine whether the result is useful. See the published evaluation method and current integration boundaries.

PDF-to-DXF recovery for eligible steel drawings

Recover vector PDF geometry as DXF without uploading a drawing. Use it free in the browser, or download the Windows desktop edition with its included command-line interface for batch automation.

Open PDF Rescue

Free AISC steel shape reference and export tools

Search 2,299 AISC shapes, generate 2D profiles, reports, structured data, and length-based 3D models, and run practical calculators without an account.

Steel software built around fabrication bottlenecks

The roadmap is driven by tasks that consume time in steel detailing: checking, drawing preparation, visual review, and coordination handoff.

Useful before the sales form

Recover steel drawings, inspect AISC shapes, or build a custom workflow.

Choose a starting point

Match the tool to the decision you need to make

The tools handle different parts of the information flow. Choose the output you need before choosing a file format or application.

Identify and compare material

Use the steel shape reference to look up a designation and its nominal properties. Use shape comparison when the question is how selected sections differ. A comparison of dimensions or weight does not establish an acceptable structural substitution.

Organize quantities and stock

Build marked rows in the material takeoff, apply your own prices in the cost estimator, and transfer compatible section groups into the cutting planner. The inventory records available bars and reusable offcuts; applying a cutting result is a separate confirmed action.

Read and compare drawings

Drawing-set search finds embedded text in selected PDFs. Drawing comparison aligns pages and adds review marks. PDF Rescue has a different purpose: recovering eligible vector content as DXF. None of these tools reconstructs missing design information.

Keep a review record

The project dashboard connects explicitly saved tool snapshots to project notes, checklists, drawing registers, and RFIs. The handoff builder assembles selected records for printing. These are records you maintain; their status does not establish contractual approval.

Before relying on saved work

Understand where the files and records live

Browser data belongs to this browser

Project records, takeoffs, preferences, and saved tool inputs are kept locally where the tool says it saves them. They do not automatically appear in another browser or on another computer. Private browsing, storage restrictions, or clearing website data can remove that state. Export a backup before changing devices or clearing data.

A snapshot is a deliberate copy

Saving a tool record to a project captures a version of its inputs. Later edits to the working tool do not silently update every saved snapshot. Complete project packages carry the attached records; the shared stock inventory has its own export and history. Original PDF files are separate from review metadata and need to be selected again when a review is restored.

Offline support is an explicit download

The offline workbench offers a core pack and a pack with the supported local PDF tools. The page lists the exact tools and download size. Wait for its verified-ready status before disconnecting, and update the download when you need a newer release. A cached tool pack is not a backup of your project data.

For a technical report, note the page or application version, input type, units, settings, expected result, and observed difference. Keep the reproduction non-confidential. The contact page explains what to include.

A few practical answers

Frequently asked questions

Which tool should I try first?

Use the shape reference for section data, PDF Rescue for recoverable vector geometry, and the project dashboard for connected records. The practice project supplies fictional files for trying a complete workflow.

Do browser tools automatically back up my work?

No. Saved browser records can disappear if storage is cleared or the browser profile changes. Export the relevant JSON backup and keep the original source files separately.

Can I use an export without checking it?

Review units, scale, orientation, file contents, and the receiving software with a representative sample. A successful download only confirms that a file was produced.
