Steel Stock and Offcut Inventory
Keep a local inventory of stock lengths and reusable offcuts. Match section and material groups, plan finite quantities, and undo inventory changes.
Know what is available
Group compatible stock by exact section and grade or other compatibility identifier. Use a different group for material that must not be mixed. Usable lengths exclude end trim. Entries stay on this device.
Changing the entry unit reinterprets the entered number. Saved lengths are stored in millimeters. Up to 1,000 inventory rows are supported.
Stock on hand
| Section / group | Length (mm) | Qty | Location | Type | Actions |
|---|
Changes save locally only after storage succeeds. The latest 10 changes can be undone, including applied cutting plans. Import replaces this inventory after confirmation. Export backups before clearing browser data; there is no account or synchronization.
Keep stock counts and reusable offcuts understandable
This inventory records the lengths you say are available on this device. Give each row a section, a compatibility group, a usable length, a quantity, and a location that makes the material easy to find. Keep unlike grades or restricted project lots in different groups.
Record a stock row
- Enter the section consistently, such as W18X35, and a compatibility identifier such as A992 LOT A. Matching ignores letter case and leading or trailing spaces, but different wording remains a different group.
- Measure or confirm the usable length after any required end trim. Select the entry unit before saving; changing this selection reinterprets the number.
- Enter the number of equal lengths, identify the rack or storage area, and choose stock or offcut. Use separate rows when lengths or locations differ.
Worked example: record a cut and its remainder
Suppose one 6,000 mm bar is recorded for W18X35 / A992 LOT A. A cutting plan uses it for two 2,400 mm pieces with a 3 mm kerf per piece. Calculating the plan leaves the inventory at one bar. Applying it with a 100 mm offcut threshold changes the stock quantity to zero and adds one 1,194 mm offcut in the same location.
The 1,194 mm length can be considered by a later plan for that exact section and group. A zero-quantity original row may remain visible so you can distinguish depleted stock from an unrecorded item.
Correct a count without losing the record
Use Edit to change a row, or undo the latest inventory change when a plan was applied in error. Undo is sequential and covers the latest ten changes; it is not a permanent transaction archive. Export JSON before a substantial reconciliation or import. CSV is useful for reviewing counts in a spreadsheet, while JSON restores the editable inventory and retained undo history.
Inventory is shared by the material tools in this browser, rather than included in a particular project's backup. Export its own JSON separately. When a plan reports no matching inventory, check both identifiers, positive quantities, and the selected length units before adding more stock. Continue in the cutting planner.
