Common context
Common project roles include specialty chords, reinforcement, lintels, connection components, and industrial framing that benefits from a particular tee proportion.
14 AISC v16.0 records
An MT is a structural tee produced from a miscellaneous M-shape. It inherits geometry from the parent section and must be identified by its exact tee designation and listed properties.
Common project roles include specialty chords, reinforcement, lintels, connection components, and industrial framing that benefits from a particular tee proportion.
Confirm parent-series geometry, stem and flange orientation, availability, connection eccentricity, and fabrication requirements instead of treating it as an interchangeable WT.
Use the directory as a reference
MT identifies a tee from the M series. Read its exact tee dimensions rather than assuming a WT with a similar weight has the same flange or stem.
Keep the tee centroid, flange orientation and distinct x- and y-axis properties with the exported geometry.
This dataset contains 14 MT records, with nominal weights from 1.85 to 9.45 lb/ft and listed depth values from 1.9 to 6.27 in. These ranges describe the published records, not current supplier inventory or a selection recommendation.
Start with the exact designation, open its full record, then compare only the dimensions and properties relevant to your task. For example, MT5X3.75 lists 3.75 lb/ft, 1.11 in² area, Ix = 2.91 in⁴ and Iy = 0.281 in⁴. The x and y labels retain the database axes; their values do not establish allowable loads.
The AISC v16.0 workbook Readme defines the variables and shape figures. This directory uses the US customary record; the comparison tool converts displayed units. Check the required edition and product specification before transferring data.
Worked quantity example
Assume 3 pieces, each 20 ft (6.096 m) long. This is a hypothetical quantity example, not a stock-length or lifting recommendation.
| Quantity | Calculation | Nominal pounds | Kilogram equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|
| One 20 ft piece | 20 ft × 3.75 lb/ft | 75 lb | 34.019 kg |
| 3 pieces | 3 × 75 lb | 225 lb | 102.058 kg |
Conversion: 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg; displayed results are rounded. This multiplication excludes connection plates, bolts, weld metal, coatings, cutting allowances and actual material variation. Use the material takeoff for your own lengths and quantities.
