How to Write a Structural Steel RFI That Gets Answered
Build a useful structural steel RFI with exact source references, one clear issue, requested direction, impact context, and a controlled response record.
Steel piece-mark explainer · 0:48
Learn how structural steel piece marks connect model objects, shop drawings, material, fabrication records, shipping, and erection information.
Practical context
A steel piece mark links a modeled assembly to its shop drawing, material, fabrication status, shipping record, erection drawing, field placement, and revision history.
Changing a mark can affect drawings, labels, reports, machine files, inventory, shipping, and field placement. Trace every consumer before release.
Companion reading and practice
In a training set, B12 appears on an erection plan, a shop drawing, and a material list. A matching label helps connect the records, but one of them may still describe an earlier issue.
Check the mark together with its section, quantity, location, and revision. Preserve the relationship between records when a mark changes; a renamed item can otherwise look like either a new piece or a missing one. Follow the project’s marking and revision procedure.
Search a local PDF set for a sample piece mark and list the sheets on which it appears.
