Guided Steel Project Workflow
Follow a saved steel project from drawing intake through takeoff, coordination, purchasing, fabrication, and recorded handoff, with manual checkpoints and local resume status.
Keep the next review step visible
Select an existing project to see its saved records beside six practical checkpoints. The active project selection carries to tools that support project records. Standalone purchasing, BOM, and quote tools remain separate: use clear references and explicitly import or associate their records where offered. This page never copies quantities, changes orders, or marks fabrication complete automatically.
Create or import a project workspace to begin.
These are your recorded reminders. A checked box or saved record does not establish engineering approval, inspection acceptance, contractual completion, or authorization to fabricate.
A workable sequence
- Drawing intake: Record the issue set and confirm which drawings are current. Drawing register.
- Takeoff and material scope: Reconcile marks, units, quantities, and scope against the identified drawing issue. Material takeoff.
- Coordination and revision review: Review changed work and record unresolved questions and authorized responses. Consistency checker.
- Purchasing and receiving: Reconcile confirmed orders, received quantities, and identification references. Quote comparison.
- Fabrication preparation: Confirm work references and holds before assigning shop progress. Fabrication board.
- Recorded handoff: Record the issue package and reconcile packing quantities; export the project backup. Transmittal ledger.
On a fictional canopy package, your intake note might identify “Issue B, sheets S101-S104, received today.” The takeoff checkpoint can refer to the saved “Canopy Issue B” record. If the consistency checker finds an unmatched mark, record the question at coordination and leave that checkpoint unchecked. After an authorized response is recorded, return to the affected source tool, update its record, and note the reviewed reference here. Revisit earlier checkpoints when new revisions arrive; a previous check does not automatically cover later work.
Download a blank six-step worksheet for planning or printing. For a complete saved copy, use the Backup center; the checkpoint-only download contains no attached project records.
Workflow questions
Are the record counts proof that a step is complete?
No. Counts show that saved records of a matching type exist. Read the records, verify current revisions, and assess open issues before entering your own checkpoint note.
Can I use the steps out of order?
Yes. Project work overlaps. Resume points to the first unchecked checkpoint as a convenience, but each section remains available. Checkpoints can be unchecked and notes revised as information changes.
Why are some standalone tool entries absent?
Some tools store a single local plan rather than a project-specific record. The workflow does not guess project ownership from similar names. Use explicit associations in the piece-mark explorer and keep matching project references in the source tools.
Does this synchronize a team?
No. The checkpoints live in this browser. Download a backup to transfer a copy, agree which copy is authoritative, and reload open tabs after restoring it.
