Takeoff Revision Comparison

Compare two steel takeoff revisions by piece mark, shape, length, quantity, nominal weight, and entered material prices. Files stay in your browser.

Use the JSON export from Material Takeoff or a takeoff saved in Project Workspaces. This comparison never changes either source record.

Use the same currency for both prices. Zero excludes a price estimate. Nominal weights omit waste, plates, bolts, fabrication, coating, freight, and tax.

How the matching works

Marks match after trimming surrounding spaces and ignoring letter case. A unique B12 in each revision can be compared directly. A blank mark or a mark repeated within either revision is flagged as ambiguous; the tool does not guess which row represents which member. Whole-takeoff totals still include these rows.

Lengths are converted to feet before comparison. A 20 ft member and a 240 in member therefore have the same length. Changing a member to a different shape is reported even when the total weight happens to remain similar. Added and removed marks need particular attention: a renamed mark appears as one removal and one addition.

The optional estimate multiplies each revision's nominal weight by its entered price. A difference may reflect a price change, a quantity change, or both. It is a material allowance, not a supplier quote or a completed fabrication estimate. Use the cost estimator for a broader allowance after checking the revision scope.

Can this certify that a revision is ready to release?

No. It compares takeoff rows, not connection geometry, design loads, approvals, or drawing instructions. Trace each reported difference back to its governing source and record unresolved questions in the RFI log.

Are saved records overwritten?

No. Saved takeoffs are read as snapshots. The comparison and imported files remain in memory until the page closes or you clear them. Export a report if you need to retain it.
